and vodka were the true roadmap to finding herself.
'Happy Beginnings - How I Became My Own Fairy Godmother' is a must read for
anyone who feels life has dropped the hammer on them and the only person
that will pick them off the ground is the person they see in the mirror.
Lorena has written a book that is open and honest. You actually get the
feeling she is in the same room with you telling you her story. Lorena's
voice is so sharp and trusting with a straight forward point of view that
looks ahead rather than looking back.
'Happy Beginnings - How I Became My Own Fairy Godmother' is a journey
through the plight of separation and divorce. You will learn how the author
takes each moment of 'now' and makes it her own. The author is human and
brave as she talks about her stumbles and tumbles but shows how a positive
attitude and perspective of picking yourself up and carrying forward with
LIFE. 'Happy Beginnings' is the life of a woman whose world crashes down all
around as her husband, referred to simply as the LCS (Lying Cheating Scum),
tells her he is leaving with index cards. "As I sat watching my favorite
television series, I was appalled that the main character's boyfriend had
just broken up with her by writing “good-bye” on a post-it note. I was
completely unaware that a similar fate awaited me but on a slightly larger
stationary product. My husband sat across from me with his 3x5 index card
neatly printed with bullet points outlining why he was moving out of our
home...
Bullet Point No 1: “I'm not happy.”
Bullet Point No 2: “I need some space.”
Bullet Point No. 3: “I'm not sure I am still in love with you.”
…and just like that, I was going to be alone. The reason was not that my
husband died in a plane crash, as I had always feared. It was not because he
had a stress heart attack in a hotel room while on a business trip. The
reason was staring at me holding a 3x5-index card and telling me that he was
not sure that he was still “in” love with me. I heard the words coming at me
at supersonic speed. I heard the words in slow motion. I heard the
words…wait…I did not hear the words."
Lorena Bathey is her own pygmalion and she invites the reader to handle life
happenings to be your own pygmalion. 'Happy Beginnings - How I Became My Own
Fairy Godmother' is a modern day set of events that deals with the
rollercoaster reality ride of life head on with one hand holding a glass
champagne and the other hand holding everything steady from falling apart.
'Happy Beginnings - How I Became My Own Fairy Godmother' is a true
celebration and everyone who reads this book should raise a glass and toast
Lorena for 'keeping it real' and sharing her story of a happy successful
life that could have been the opposite -- Lorena's glass is truly half full
rather than half empty.

Lorena
Bathey wasn’t born a fairy godmother. She was an only child that
grew up in a small town in Northern California. She attended local
schools and went on to major in English at St. Mary’s College, a
school just twenty minutes from her hometown. But she always dreamed
big, wanting to travel, become an actress and be successful, Of
course Lorena’s idea of success fluctuated as I she matured, but
happiness was consistently on the list.
One time while shopping at a mall, she was interviewed and quoted in
a paper about what her dreams were, “would like to write a best
selling novel, win the lotto, find the man of my dreams and move to
an island in Tahiti where I would be blissfully happy.”
Interestingly enough, Lorena believed it was possible to achieve
that dream, although living in Tahiti would make it difficult to
drop her kids off at school.
In her twenties, she had a dramatic relationship with a fanatical
European man. After the ups and downs of that relationship, she
returned to San Francisco. She met and married a more calmer and
settled American man and set out to make the idea of fairy tale
marriage come true.
Eleven years, two kids and one golden retriever later the fairy tale
that was her marriage was in need of extensive repair. Finally,
accepting that no amount of magic was going to keep her marriage
intact, they separated. It was there that her journey began of
starting over. Along the way she learned that love, loss, friends,
and vodka were the true roadmap to finding herself.
Lorena started chronicling the changes taking place in her life
after her husband left. As she wrote, she noticed her life,
personality and strength growing as well. During that time she
returned to work, running a successful business for three years that
kept her in shoes and purses. Returning to the workforce gave her
renewed sense of confidence.
Lorena came to believe that everything and everyone that enters your
life has a definite purpose. There are no chances or coincidences.
“We live our lives believing that we are in control of every aspect,
but what we find out is that it is best to grab onto the trolley
strap and let intention and the universe take you where you need to
be.”
Today, Lorena is a divorced mother of two wonderful children. She
has a home, two new burgeoning careers; as a writer and the other as
a personal stylist. She has friends, love and happiness. Happy
Beginnings – How I Became My Own Fairy Godmother is her first novel.
