Kill Me If You Can, You SOB by Bob Miller (ISBN-10: 1587368463) is a remarkable book that is an enlightening, original, funny and ‘Real” inside look at the Vietnam War.

Bob Miller wears his heart on his sleeve and paper. It only takes a page or two to quickly respect and enjoy his wit. In his new book Kill Me If You Can, You SOB,  Mr. Miller shares a small glimpse of his life during the Vietnam War with a book that was written as a diary while he served four decades ago.

"Late May, 1968 - Dear Diary: I'll make you no promises of good grammar or any other such thing, but I will be dependable."

Kill Me If You Can, You SOB is more than just a book about the Vietnam War - It's an inside look inside the author's world and mind. Bob Miller served with the 192nd Assault Helicopter Company. Located in Phan Thiet, Vietnam, the 192nd provided air support for the 173rd Airborne Brigade. Miller was shot down twice, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal.

Kill Me If You Can, You SOB is historical from a soldier/authors' point of view. Rather than teaching and telling, Miller shows and describes. There is plenty of military jargon and vocabulary which adds to the books' credibility:  GUN PLATOON, B ODEL CHOPPERS, SLICKS, lZ (LANDING ZONE), MACV (MILITARY ADVISORY COMMAND VIETNAM), NVA (NORTH VIETNAMESE ARMY, C RATIONS AND C&C (COMMAND AND CONTROL).

Kill Me If You Can, You SOB is a book that everyone can enjoy. It's not political - It's human. It's not a comedy but it's funny. It's a book that takes place during a war but it's not ALL about war.

In a recent interview the author was asked why he kept a diary during the war and his reply was, "I kept a diary about the war for the very reason I explained in the first few pages of the book. I went to Vietnam expecting to die since the life expectancy of helicopter pilots was seven days. Yes, I keep daily notes even today. I try to jot down the fragile little things that my mind might not record because they seem to be insignificant at the moment. I didn't consider it a one-way conversation with a friend back then, but it sure sounds like that now."

Before M.A.S.H. and Gozo-Journailst Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, Bob Miller was serving in Vietnam and writing a diary that is now Kill Me If You Can, You SOB. The author writes in his diary, "At Operations this morning, I learned that the guy who had cut my hair had been a barber during the day and a VC at night. He had been killed while trying to blow up something. At least that's the Army's story. Hell, the guy might have been shot by accident or because he had given someone a bad haircut. Believe me, Diary; the people back home couldn't deal with knowing how many guys are sent home in body bags because of fratricide . . . The military is exactly like the Church; they try to sweep every ungodly act, and even honest mistakes, under the carpet."

Kill Me If You Can, You SOB is funny and informative without pulling any punches and without any false characters. The people here are real and the book is funny but you never forget that it is written during a war. Not even a talented author like Bob Miller can make war pretty.

In Kill Me If You Can, You SOB, Miller writes, " War is Hell. Just doesn't make sense… War is only Hell for those who end up disfigured, lame or dead. Everyone else ends up with a paycheck."

What does make sense? This is very good book. If books were generals, Kill Me If You Can, You SOB would be a five star general.

About the Author: When you ask people who have known Bob Miller for several years about him, you usually end up with a question instead of an answer. It goes like this… "What's Bob Miller like? Wow! Now that you've asked, I'm not sure."

Miller volunteered to go to Vietnam having a wife, two children, a good job, and his military obligation over. Yet, he admits right up front he did not believe for one minute the reason given for going to war, namely stopping the spread of Communism. Nevertheless, he
went, was shot down twice, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal which he immediately gave to his commanding officer along with his wings and asked to be discharged.

This is a trend that continued after his return. Miller's a registered Republican who has criss-crossed America campaigning against the neo-conservatives in the Republican Party. He recently asked on national TV if using the name George W. Bush in the same sentence with the word leadership was an oxymoron.
