Reflections in the Mill Pond
by Larry Wood is about memories, hope, family, tragedy and faith.
Author Larry Wood writes,
“I’m not certain of my first memories. I suspect none of us are.”
Memories
of childhood can be wonderful or tragic reflections, but most
importantly they mark the beginning of our journey.
Reflections in the Mill
Pond (ISBN-10: 1419664603)
begins in Taos, New Mexico in the mid
1940's where the author spent a significant part of his youth in the
home of his maternal grandfather. Surrounded by notable artists of
the day, our painting resounded with music, laughter and all the
vibrant colours which drew aficionados from all over the world to
the area. The picture of "our" home radiated all the ambiance and
allure that made Taos the magical destination that it remains today.
Reflections
in the Mill Pond, although the journey of
the author is the story of many and provides many messages of
‘counting
blessings,’ ‘reaching out to friends' and
how a little kindness can go a long way. In a recent interview
the author says, “I
have learned over the years that during times of loss, hardship and
crisis individuals respond in the best manner they can. I have
chosen to remember each and every individual along my journey for
their best qualities.”
Larry Wood lost the love
of his life on May 21, 1983 and simultaneously found himself
drowning in debt from a collapsed oil and gas business and drug
abuse. “Once
again I must defer to the remarkable people who just
"appeared" in my life. In a period of roughly 90
days, I lost my entire family and somewhere in the neighborhood of
12 million dollars. I think that would constitute a "low time." I
didn't have the money to bury the person I loved most in the world.
I overdosed on my overdose and the lethal quantity of pills I had
ingested just globbed together and didn't dissolve. Likewise the
rope I was hanging from slipped loose from the balcony railing and
left me unconscious on the floor below. It was a bad time.”
Reflections in the Mill
Pond is all about how your past develops
you for your future. Faith in the future (or the day) is POWER
in the present. This is a wonderful story of ‘Hanging On!”
Surviving. Moving forward but remembering the past. Overcoming
obstacles in life to find a new purpose. This book is about finding
strength again.
If you have lived long enough
you have experienced life’s “Highs” and “Lows” and what Larry Wood
has done with Reflections in the Mill Pond is written the
story many of us have not. His path may be different than many of us
but his ‘life’ offers hope and a message of a better tomorrow by
appreciating what you have today. Reflections in the Mill Pond
is an absolute wonderful, brave, insightful and original book and
one that that you will immensely enjoy.

Oklahoma in the mid 1940’s, the author
considers “home” to be the ancestral home of his grandparents,
Taos, New Mexico. While he has lived in a variety of places
including Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado and New Mexico, he resides
at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains close to the
Colorado, New Mexico border where he has lived for many years.
The author attended schools in Texas, Oklahoma, and Colorado
receiving undergraduate and graduate degrees in Foreign
Languages and Psychology. After a number of years in the booming
oil and gas industry of the 1970’s the author returned to his
long time dream of working with young children and painting the
unique scenes of the American Southwest in oils and watercolors.
While achieving some success in both areas, he began to document
events of his life in story form. During the flamboyant days of
the oil and gas boom of the 70’s, the author published technical
articles dealing with enhanced oil production through reservoir
stimulation. In the 1980’s, the author penned a series of poems
of which several were published by organizations including
Hospice. The author submits periodic articles to a variety of
local publications. “Reflections in the Mill Pond” is the
