Through Tempest Forged by
Barbara Passaris is a masterpiece and an instant historical fiction
classic!
Through Tempest Forged (ISBN-10:
0979087856) is about Home,
Family, Politics, War, Choices, Love, Deceit, Adventure, Loyalty and History.
Set in the year 1775, Paul Rogers has left England for a new home in the Royal
Colony of Virginia. This is an epic story that is brilliantly crafted. Through
Tempest Forged touches on many themes with home and family as the anchor and
center.
"The
wind blew through his long black hair, sending tendrils whipping into
his face as he stood on the deck of the Triton. Twenty-year-old Paul
Augustrus Rogers was homesick."
Through Tempest Forged shows what can
happen when a family is challenged by the pains and struggles during the birth
of new nation. As the United States struggles for identity and independence so
does the Rogers' family. Love is tested during these troubled times with a war
and battles all around -- This is the Revolutionary era. You will learn and
understand what a pure and true marital bond is in the hearts of Paul and
Elizabeth Rogers.
As the story progresses, Elizabeth's
strength is unprecedented during an era when gender roles are simple; the wife
cooks and gardens while the husband earns. The Rogers Family bonds through
challenges and difficulty because it is 'in their nature to do so.'
In a recent interview Barbara Passaris
said, "I literally wanted the reader to see that this family, the Rogers',
would move onward and forward, not only despite the difficulties and calamities,
but BECAUSE of them… As the story progresses, however, some of that changes.
Elizabeth's strength and support are something that Paul has always counted on.
But she comes into her own more as her son is captured, her daughter raped, her
husband's health is threatened. And when the truth of their son's sexuality is
finally exposed, it is Elizabeth who will insist that he be treated with
dignity, "no matter what he has done." As with Paul's illness, more of the
decision-making is transferred to Elizabeth, as she is trying to protect him
against the effects of stress…"
Through Tempest Forged is beautifully
written with rich detail. The Background and setting of the era are well done
and add to the credibility and magic of the story.
Set during the American Revolution, the
period during the last half of the 18th century in which the Thirteen Colonies
that became the United States of America gained independence from the British
Empire, Through Tempest Forged is an education in history that will delight all
readers. In this period, the Colonies united against the British Empire and
entered a period of armed conflict known as the Revolutionary War or as the
American War of Independence, between 1775 and 1783. This culminated in an
American Declaration of Independence in 1776, and victory on the battlefield.
The American Revolution included a series of broad intellectual and social
shifts that occurred in the early American society, such as the new republican
ideals that took hold in the American population. In some colonies, sharp
political debates broke out over the role of democracy in government. The
American shift to republicanism, as well as the gradually expanding democracy,
caused an upheaval of the traditional social hierarchy, and created the ethic
that formed the core of American political values. The revolutionaries were
called at the time 'Patriots' or 'Americans'. They included a full range of
social and economic classes, but a unanimity regarding the need to defend the
rights of Americans. Through Tempest Forged shows how the United States was
shaped from the perspective of Paul Rogers and his family.
Author Barbara Passaris is an author we
should be hearing about for a long time. Through Tempest Forged is a remarkable
novel for a first time author setting herself on the literary ladder of such
great and best-selling historical authors such as Margaret Mitchell, Charles
Frazier and Alex Haley. Passaris' voice is clear and her attention to detail and
character is masterful.
