Tiny Titan is the most incredible and amazing book you will read this year.
Tiny Titan by Ann Yurcek took over 16 years to write but may be the most incredible and amazing book you may ever read. Inthe acknowledgment of Tiny Titan (Publisher: Better Endings New Beginnings, ISBN-10: 0963707272) Ann Yurcek writes "For two years I struggled with starting and knowing how to write. I almost quit….At times I ran into brick walls…" but Ann Yurcek did not quit writing. She did not stop. Just like the challenges her family faces in her book Tiny Titan, Ann pushed forward, one word at a time and overcame. This families remarkable story is now successfully in print.
Written by an author, who wants to be known as 'Just a Mom,' Tiny Titan is the story of a family that overcame many brick walls. One by one the Yurcek family went over and under wall after wall. This is a family and a story whose will power and story will inspire you beyond belief. You will question your own faith. You will question your own dedication. You will appreciate what you have and never again question whether or not you can or can't because the Yurcek family's story is that powerful!
Ann married Jim Yurcek in 1977 and she dreamed of 'just being a Mom', with a family and a caring husband. In 1989, the Yurceks' sixth child, Becca (Rebecca Nicole)was born with a rare genetic disorder called 'Noonan's syndrome.' In a recent interview the author says, "Noonan Syndrome is a congenital heart syndrome that affects both children and adults. Those affected have complex congenital heart problems and short stature. It is believed that 1 in 1000 to 1 in 2500 are born with this condition. Noonan Syndrome is a genetic condition that can be inherited or can happen by a sporadic mutation such as our Becca's. It can affect the heart, growth, blood clotting, gastrointestinal systems, mental and physical development of the person. Affected individuals may have behavior problems, learning difficulties and many other anomalies. Noonan Syndrome is one of the most common conditions associated with congenital heart anomalies. My Becca has a very severe form of Noonan Syndrome and most of the findings."
While Becca struggled to survive, the Yurcek's fell into deep poverty. Where many families would have given up hope and broken apart, this family carried forward against more unseen obstacles. Tiny Titan is a very rare book, of hope, love and faith. Ann Yurcek is not "just a Mom" but an 'extraordinary human being' with an exceptional and uplifting story of family, faith and how 'brick walls' can't stop the human spirit.
Tiny Titan is a true journey of emotional and spiritual accomplishments and blessings. This family's story is a 'Miracle'. Wanting to give back the Yurcek's decided to adopt 'the family no one wants' but finds that the adoption process can be a disaster. Again more walls. The family struggles to understand bureaucracy and lies. The author says, "When we adopted the (six) children, I expected to find the kind of coordinated systems I had been blessed with in the health care system in finding help for Becca to survive. I did not know that I was entering a broken, fragmented, and challenged system. The system was much more complex than the children we adopted. We were not told of my children's severe problems logged in records we did not have. Two l7 page psychologicals on my oldest adoptive daughter were hidden. We were only allowed to ask questions and who knew what questions to ask. We were not allowed to see the volumes of records on our new children. I had learned from my years with Becca to advocate and to never give up for what my daughter's needs. Those skills would be strengthened as I learned to be mom, therapist, psychiatrist and lawyer to fight for the services in order to help my newly adopted children."
Tiny Titan is written with the passion of 'just sharing' a story. A story of a family that NEVER let 'a brick wall' stop their pace or stand in their way no matter the odds. Ann and her family today is still making progress in changing the 'system' in their state for adopted families. As a result of the Yurceks, other states are beginning to make changes in their adoption/foster care systems.I guarantee you will not read a book this year that is as amazing and inspirational as Tiny Titan. Ann Yurcek may have started out wanting to be 'just a Mom' but life interrupted and now her story is one of accomplishments, miracles and faith. Ann is more than 'just a Mom'. Jim Yurcek is more than 'just a father/husband'. This is more than 'just a story'.
